Corinthians seek to end Fluminense, Maracanã curse in Brasileirão

On the evening of this Saturday, the 13th, Corinthians returns to the field for the Brazilian Championship. In the 23rd round, Timão faces Fluminense in a match at 9 PM at Maracanã Stadium, aiming to win again to secure their third consecutive unbeaten game in the national competition and return to the top half of the standings. Currently, the team is in 12th place, with 26 points.

However, to achieve this, the Alvinegro will have to challenge an uncomfortable taboo, as the last victory over Fluminense as a visitor occurred in 2017, during the 2017 Brazilian title campaign – the 1-0 triumph was made possible by a goal from Balbuena. Since then, there have been nine games played, with five draws and four Alvinegro defeats, along with nine goals scored and 15 conceded in total.

The historical performance of Corinthians as a visitor against Fluminense is also negative. Since 1933, the Carioca team has hosted the Alvinegro 59 times, with Corinthians winning 12 matches, drawing 23, and losing 24. In these games, 155 goals were scored, 66 by Corinthians and 89 by Fluminense.

Another statistic to be faced is the performance at Maracanã, which is equally negative for Corinthians. Since the first game in 1951, the team has visited the venue 159 times, recording 42 victories, 37 draws, and 80 defeats, along with 173 goals for and 263 goals against. The last Alvinegro victory at the venue was against Flamengo in the 2022 Brazilian Championship: 2-1, with goals from Du Queiroz and Yuri Alberto.
