Corinthians are facing internal legal and compliance hurdles that have delayed settlement of a debt to Talleres tied to midfielder Rodrigo Garro. A 1 May deadline, then a one week extension, were both missed.
The deal calls for an upfront 8.5 million dollars, about R$ 42 million, including interest and fees. Central do Timão reports president Osmar Stabile moved for a loan from Outfield to fund it.
The liability follows a Fifa ruling in February 2025 for 3.6 million dollars. Corinthians appealed to CAS to avoid another transfer ban, with talks previously frozen amid strained relations under former president Augusto Melo.
A change in approach eased tensions. Stabile met Talleres chief Andrés Fassi in Argentina and said in early April that Cori had approved the payment plan.
An internal finance group at Parque São Jorge, later disbanded after the exits of André Recoder and Gabriel Diniz Abrão, helped clear sums owed to Santos Laguna for Félix Torres and worked on the Matías Rojas case, as well as Talleres.
Meanwhile Fifa imposed another transfer ban last week over money due to Philadelphia Union for José Martínez. The club were ordered in September 2025 to pay 1.425 million dollars plus 15% interest after missing instalments, and separately CAS ruled on 31 March that more than R$ 6 million must be paid to Midtjylland over Charles, with a 45 day deadline that had reached 51 days by Thursday.
