Corinthians striker eyes milestone if he faces Vasco this Sunday

Forward Memphis Depay is one match away from equaling a historic personal milestone. If he takes the field for Corinthians this Sunday (21), at 6 PM (Brasília time), in the second leg of the Copa do Brasil final against Vasco, the Dutchman will reach 51 matches played in the season wearing the black-and-white jersey, matching a personal record that has lasted over seven years.

The last and only time the Corinthians' number 10 played so many times for a club in a single season was in 2017/18, when he was with Lyon, France, also totaling 51 matches for the team, with 36 in the French Championship, ten in the Europa League, four in the French Cup, and one in the League Cup. It is worth noting that this count does not include his appearances for the Netherlands national team.

Other standout campaigns in the forward's career have been recorded throughout his career in Europe. In the 2018/19 season, for example, Memphis played in 47 matches for Lyon. In 2015/16, he took the field 45 times for Manchester United, England. At PSV, Netherlands, he also had a standout season in 2013/14, when he played in 43 matches for the team.

Memphis will have the opportunity to reach this important personal milestone even after a tumultuous 2025, facing six different injuries, including ankle and leg traumas, ankle sprain, thigh injury and edema, as well as bone edema. Despite the setbacks, he took on an important role for the team, directly contributing to 21 goal involvements, many of which were decisive for the Alvinegro in various competitions.
