Corinthians strong at home v Botafogo, winless in last four

Corinthians hosted Botafogo on Sunday afternoon (30th), at Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the 36th round of the Brazilian Championship, and drew 2-2. The draw left the Alvinegro in ninth place with 46 points (12 wins, 10 draws, and 14 losses – 40 goals scored and 44 conceded).

The result extended Corinthians' winless streak against Botafogo. The last Corinthians victory over the team from Rio happened on September 22, 2023, by 1-0, at Neo Química Arena, in the 24th round of the Brasileirão, with the goal scored by former defender Gil.

On that day, Corinthians took the field with: Cássio; Bruno Mendez, Lucas Veríssimo, Gil, and Matheus Bidu; Gabriel Moscardo, Maycon, and Matías Rojas; Pedro, Wesley, and Yuri Alberto. The bench options were: Carlos Miguel, Caetano, Fagner Fausto Vera, Fábio Santos, Victor Cantillo, Giuliano, Guilherme Biro, Ruan Oliveira, Renato Augusto, and Ángel Romero.

Of those, only Matheus Bidu, Maycon, Ángel Romero, and Yuri Alberto are still on the squad today. Since then, Botafogo has won 1-0 and 2-1 in both rounds of the 2024 Brasileirão. The first match took place in Itaquera and the second at Estádio Nilton Santos, Engenhão, in Rio de Janeiro. In the two matches of the 2025 Brasileirão, both ended in draws: 1-1 (Nilton Santos) and 2-2 (Neo Química Arena).

This is the longest run of games without a Corinthians win over Botafogo since the 2012 and 2013 seasons – also four games (two draws and two losses). Despite this, the club from Parque São Jorge has maintained a favorable record against Botafogo at Neo Química Arena. Since 2014, when the Arena was inaugurated, there have been 10 matches between the teams, with six wins for the Alvinegro, three draws, and one Botafogo victory – 15 goals scored and seven conceded.

Corinthians will now return to the pitch next Wednesday (3rd), at 7:30 pm (Brasília time), against Fortaleza, at Arena Castelão, for the penultimate round of the Brasileirão, aiming to finish in eighth place, which could secure a spot in the 2026 Pre-Libertadores.
