Corinthians will mark Saint George’s Day and the centenary of Parque São Jorge on Thursday 23 April with special masses and a statue unveiling at Neo Química Arena.
According to Meu Timao, a members-only mass will be held at 9:00 in the Parque São Jorge chapel. At 19:10, a second service in the Arena’s West Lower will be followed by a procession inside Casa do Povo and the statue’s inauguration at the entrance. The work is by Gilmar Pinna.
Supporters must reserve tickets for the Arena event via Fiel Torcedor, which will email the ticket after registration. The morning mass requires no booking, but is restricted to club associates.
Pedestrians should use Gate A via the Arthur Alvim steps. Drivers must use the paid car park at Gate E5, subject to availability. Fans are urged not to arrive without a ticket.
Titled “Cavaleiro Fiel”, the statue will stand by the Arthur Alvim staircase. Finished in 2014, it was once slated for the World Cup period but instead remained on display at Parque Cecap in Guarulhos. Made from stainless steel and iron, it stands around 25 metres tall.
Parque São Jorge was built in 1926 and opened in 1928. It includes the Alfredo Schürig ground, the Fazendinha, now used by youth sides and the women’s team.
The 23 April date is observed by the Catholic Church as Saint George’s Day, and the saint is venerated in Catholic and Orthodox traditions and syncretised with Ogum in Afro-Brazilian religions.
