Corinthians turn down European offer for Hugo Souza

The transfer market for Corinthians remains busy, and the goalkeeper and one of the black-and-white captains, Hugo Souza, is attracting interest for the second time from European football. This time, the proposal came from Besiktas, Turkey, which attempted to purchase the goalkeeper with an immediate departure still in February.

The proposal of around 10 million euros (61.6 million reais) was initially mentioned by commentator Zé Elias and was later confirmed by OTB Sports, the group of agents managing Hugo Souza's career. They informed that this is the second time Corinthians has rejected a European bid for the goalkeeper, with the first attempt coming from Milan, Italy, which was looking for a replacement for the possible departure of French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The group of agents also confirmed that Hugo Souza will not leave Corinthians and intends to fulfill his contract with the club, which is valid until December 2029. So far, wearing the Timão jersey, Hugo has played in 97 matches, winning three titles.

"Due to the information released by numerous media outlets early this Friday afternoon (6th), regarding a new official proposal received by Corinthians for the transfer of Hugo Souza, OTB comes forward to provide further clarification, aiming to avoid speculation about a possible negotiation of the goalkeeper, who will not leave the club at this moment.

The offer from Besiktas, recently reported in the media and presented by OTB to the club on February 4th, is the second proposal rejected by the Corinthians board in recent weeks.

The first was presented by OTB back in December 2025, precisely on 12/4, coming from Milan, Italy. The conversation did not progress initially, as the club and goalkeeper were focused on the finals of the Copa do Brasil, and it only concluded with SCCP's refusal, already in January this year.

The same outcome occurred in negotiations with Besiktas, when the club promptly rejected the offer presented by OTB on behalf of the Turkish team.

Hugo has a contract with Corinthians until the end of 2029 and is experiencing his best moment in his career. Focused on winning more trophies with the black-and-white jersey and, perhaps, the Hexa with the Brazilian National Team, there is no talk of the goalkeeper's departure at this moment, as any possibility of transfer will only be discussed after the World Cup.
