Corinthians v Botafogo: likely absentees and suspensions

Corinthians will host Botafogo this Sunday afternoon (30th) at the Neo Química Arena at 4 PM (Brasília time), in a match valid for the 36th round of the Brazilian Championship. At this moment, with the partial completion of the round, Alvinegro occupies the 12th position with 45 points (12 wins, nine draws, and 14 losses – 38 goals scored and 42 conceded). In case of a win, they could jump to the eighth position.

The Corinthians technical staff has two confirmed absences for the match: midfielder José Martínez, who is serving a suspension after being sent off in last Sunday's (23rd) match against Cruzeiro at Mineirão. In addition, forward Memphis Depay remains out for the second consecutive game due to a bone bruise/edema suffered after a knee twist during the Majestic derby, in the 34th round of the Brasileirão, in Itaquera.

On the other hand, Corinthians has three uncertainties: goalkeeper Hugo Souza, who has been training normally with the squad but is recently recovered from a left thigh injury and hasn't played since November 2nd, in a 2-0 victory against Grêmio at the Neo Química Arena, in the 31st round of the Brasileirão. Besides the number 1, left-back Matheus Bidu, who was out against Cruzeiro after reporting discomfort in his right knee, also has an uncertain presence.

Meanwhile, midfielder Maycon, who missed the games against São Paulo (20th) and Cruzeiro (23rd) due to tendinopathy in his right knee, has been training with the group – like Hugo Souza – but is still doubtful. He hasn't played since November 9th, in Corinthians' 1-0 defeat against Ceará in Itaquera, in the 33rd round of the national competition.

Corinthians will also need to be cautious with players who have two yellow cards – on the brink of suspension – such as full-backs Matheuzinho and Matheuzinho Bidu; midfielders Charles and Breno Bidon; and forward Talles Magno. If any of them receive a booking, they will not face Fortaleza next Wednesday (3rd) at 7 PM (Brasília time), at Arena Castelão, for the 37th and penultimate round of the Brazilian Championship.
