Corinthians winger rues missed chances in Liga Nacional final

Late last Saturday night (14th), Corinthians faced Jaraguá at Arena Jaraguá in the second match of the National Futsal League (LNF) final and was defeated 3-0. The result left the Alvinegro as the runner-up of the competition. In the first leg, the teams drew 3-3.

Moments after the final whistle, winger Igor Carioca gave an interview to Rádio Coringão and Central do Timão and analyzed the decisive match of the national tournament, lamenting the missed chances by Alvinegro in the game, most of which came from his feet.

He also highlights that, many times throughout the season, the Corinthians team created several goal opportunities but failed in the execution of plays. Igor Carioca further stated that even after missing some chances, it didn't affect him during the match: “The play was quick there, when I took him (the goalkeeper) out, he still kicked me, but that stops me, or I should have passed or hit the goal, but after I missed the goal there, it doesn't affect me at all, the game goes on, we had many opportunities in the game before conceding the first goal.”

“Throughout almost the entire championship, we created, created, but didn't score, and then we conceded one. We knew that in the final it would be much more difficult, but there's nothing to lament, man, we are sad about this championship, but grateful to God, it's the first time I've reached a league final, the dream of being at Corinthians too, my first final with this jersey. Where I wanted to be. The feeling is of sadness, but just grateful to the Faithful Football fans who showed up, to my teammates. So, for me, Jaraguá also deserved to be in the final and ended up deserving the title.”

Later, he highlighted the feeling of sadness for the second consecutive runner-up finish in 2025. Last week, Alvinegro was defeated by Magnus in the Paulista Futsal Championship final. He also mentions the arrival of the experienced fixed player, Marlon, with a resume in Europe and the Brazilian National Team, in the middle of the season, as a point of improvement for the team this year: “The feeling is horrible. We were so confident. Marlon's arrival throughout the year made the team grow a lot. We knew there are many young kids in the squad, but we were very confident in the two titles.”

Finally, he praised the quality of the reinforcements that arrived at Corinthians at the beginning and throughout the season, in addition to the already mentioned Marlon: “Many people didn't know what our team would be like this season, many new people arrived, but only those who came this year, everyone is hardworking, Caio (Barros), Renatinho, Marlon, Rick, everyone gave their all to honor the Corinthians jersey.”

“We honored the Corinthians jersey in five championships, five finals, of course, the most important were the Paulista and the LNF, but that's sports. Some days we win, some days we don't, but it's time to work to return to more finals,” he concluded.

In the first phase of the current edition of the National League, Corinthians had the sixth-best campaign with 42 points in 23 games (12 wins, six draws, and five losses – 68 goals scored and 49 conceded). In the knockout stage, Alvinegro eliminated: Carlos Barbosa (round of 16), Magnus (quarterfinals), and Campo Mourão (semifinal).

In the season, there were two titles (São Paulo Cup and Mucho Más International Tournament in Spain) and three runner-ups (Gramado Supercup, Paulista Championship, and National Futsal League). At Corinthians since the beginning of 2024, Igor Carioca has accumulated 22 goals and 23 assists in 87 matches with the Corinthians jersey. His contract ends in December this year.
