Corinthians Women exit Copa do Brasil, unwanted record returns

On the evening of Wednesday, the 24th, Corinthians returned to the field for the Women's Copa do Brasil. In a match valid for the quarterfinals of the competition, which is played in a single game, the Brabas faced São Paulo at Estádio Gabriel Marques da Silva in Santana de Parnaíba. In a game marked by errors in both attack and defense, the team was defeated 3-1 – the only goal for the Alvinegro was scored by Vic Albuquerque.

The setback in the derby not only eliminated the team from the national tournament, but also caused the Alvinegro to reach a negative milestone that hadn’t happened since 2022 – the last season, until now, in which Corinthians failed to win two tournaments among those they competed in. On that occasion, the team led by Arthur Elias exited the Copa Libertadores in the quarterfinals and was eliminated from the Campeonato Paulista still in the first phase.

In the current season, meanwhile, Corinthians has already completed its participation in three tournaments, being champion only in the Campeonato Brasileiro. In the other two, they lost the trophy, finishing as runners-up in the Supercopa do Brasil and falling in the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. It’s worth noting that, in both eliminations, the team’s executioner was São Paulo.

Now, the team led by Lucas Piccinato faces a major challenge ahead in the upcoming competitions, namely the Copa Libertadores and the continuation of the state championship. That’s because Corinthians has never lost three tournaments in a single season since reactivating women’s football in 2016. If they do not win the two competitions they will play until the end of the year, the team will break this negative record.
