Corinthians Women’s chief on signings, backs Lucas Piccinato

Corinthians has already announced five signings to strengthen the Brabas squad this season. Even so, the club's management remains attentive to the market in search of alternatives to address potential gaps in the group and deal with adverse situations, such as the serious injury suffered by defender Thaís Regina.

According to Iris Sesso, director of women's football at Timão, the club continues to monitor the market, but at this moment, the priority is entirely focused on the squad preparing for the debut in the Copa das Campeãs, the Women's Club World Cup.

“So, of course, when some unforeseen events happen, which is normal, unfortunately injuries occur, we always monitor. But for now, we are really focused on the athletes we have today, with the entire squad. And, especially now, on starting the season well with the World Cup and then continuing”, stated the director before the Brabas' departure for London, England, last Tuesday afternoon.

Thaís Regina, it is worth remembering, was diagnosed with a fracture in the fibula of her left ankle after a collision during one of the team's training sessions last week. According to the club, the defender will need to undergo a surgical procedure and there is no forecast for her return to the field. Besides her, defender Agustina Barroso, who returned to Corinthians in 2026, will also not be available for the Club World Cup due to a recurring contraction associated with the scar of the left soleus muscle.

At another moment, Iris Sesso reinforced the support for the work of coach Lucas Piccinato and guaranteed his permanence in charge of the team. Despite having won the Brazilian Championship and the Women's Libertadores in 2025, the coach is the target of criticism from fans, mainly due to negative results in derbies last season.

“We have Piccinato starting the season now, we will keep him in the team and that's it. I think it's a job, it's results, it's titles, it's serious work, indeed. And we need, I understand the fans, we know the passion of the fans. I think no one pleases everyone, I think not even Jesus Christ pleased everyone, but it's part of it, it's part of the sport. So, I believe he is still in command and, with him in command, we will fight to win new titles again”, she explained.

In 2025, Corinthians was defeated by São Paulo on penalties in the final of the Women's Super Cup and was eliminated by the Morumbi rival in the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil. In the Paulista Championship final, the Brabas suffered a 5-1 defeat against Palmeiras in the first leg and, even winning the return match 1-0, ended up as runners-up in the state championship.

Off the field, the club also remains active with renewals and sponsorship negotiations. Iris Sesso confirmed that Corinthians is in advanced talks with new commercial partners, although it cannot yet formalize agreements before the contracts are signed.

“Actually, I am very connected with the Corinthians marketing department, along with the president as well. We are really quite advanced in some matters. I can't say anything yet, because until we have everything 100% finalized, it would be reckless on my part to say anything. But we are, indeed, working. We have closed new sponsorships and now it's always about seeking more, better structure, so that we can have a victorious season”, she concluded.

Last week, Corinthians announced a partnership with Remessa Online, a Brazilian international transfer platform linked to the EBANX holding, which will have its brand on the lower back of the uniform. Additionally, the club renewed its contract with Tecnogera and is negotiating with a major company, whose name has not yet been disclosed, to take on the role of the team's main sponsor.

On the field, the Brabas will make their debut in the 2026 season on January 28, at 9:30 am (Brasília time), against Gotham FC from the United States, in the Copa das Campeãs semifinal. The match will be played at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.
