Corinthians Women’s director says renewal talks underway, urges caution

The Corinthians Women's team became seven-time Brazilian champions on Sunday, September 14, by defeating Cruzeiro 1-0 at the Neo Química Arena. Despite the historic victory, the board remains vigilant, as at least 12 players from the squad have contracts about to expire.

Iris Sesso, the director responsible for the team, has already started negotiations for possible renewals, but did not detail which discussions are underway and did not rule out possible departures, emphasizing that each situation is different.

"We can't give spoilers, of course, but we've been thinking about this since the beginning of the year. So, what happens: we have priorities. Priority now is the Brazilian title. We are talking to some athletes. We are exchanging ideas with the presidency, with finance, with athletes. This is moving forward. What we usually don't do is publicize this," said the director in an interview at the Neo Química Arena.

She added: "We want a little privacy in this matter, because it's very delicate. Each player is a case. We have harassment from other clubs. We also have to think about new players in case some leave. So, it's a whole internal process, but with this you can be sure that we are well aligned and working on it."

The athletes whose contracts are valid until December 31 of this year are: goalkeepers Lelê, Nicole Ramos and Kemelli; defenders Mariza and Erika; full-backs Tamires, Gi Fernandes, Letícia Santos and Paulinha; midfielder Yaya; and attacking midfielders Gabi Zanotti and Eudimilla. Under current legislation, without registered renewal, these players can sign pre-contracts with other clubs, potentially leaving Corinthians at the end of the year without costs.

It's worth remembering that the black and white team underwent a squad overhaul at the beginning of the season, with departures of idols such as Gabi Portilho, Yasmim, Jheniffer and Millene, and the arrival of reinforcements like Thaís Regina, Andressa Alves, Day Rodríguez, Letícia Monteiro and Ariel Godoi, all participants in this Sunday's victory. The club also announced the tenth signing of the season, Ivana Fuso, who was not registered in time to compete in the Brasileirão.

To avoid new losses and the need for replacements, the board is already studying some renewals. Meanwhile, the Brabas continue on the field in search of more titles: in 2025, besides the runner-up of the Supercopa do Brasil, the team still competes in the Paulistão, the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores, which this time guarantees a spot in the Club World Cup.
