There is the potential that Manchester City could be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. As revealed exclusively by Esteemed Kompany it appears likely that Ederson could leave the club this summer. If Ederson leaves City would be in desperate need of another keeper. Now question marks have appeared over the future of Stefan Ortega. If Ortega was to leave also then Manchester City would be in desperate need of another keeper as well. One keeper linked with a move to the world champions is Benfica keeper Anatoliy Trubin. Here is a look at the latest news on Stefan Ortega and whether or not a City move for Anatoliy Trubin makes sense.
In an interview with German publication Kicker, Stefan Ortega admitted that he is uncertain if he will remain at Manchester City after this season. Speaking about his playing time at City and his future, he said: “I think I’ve played a considerable number of games since I’ve been there (at Manchester City).”
Speaking on his future Ortega added: “Sometimes things happen very quickly. I can’t yet say what will happen in the summer. Anything is possible. We know the world of football; things can happen very quickly sometimes.”
First of all, I can’t see Manchester City selling both Ederson and Stefan Ortega this summer. I believe only one of them will be allowed to leave the club this summer. To replace both would be a tough ask for Manchester City when they are set to undertake a significant rebuild this summer.
Lucas Arnold has previously relayed a report from Graeme Bailey for TBR Football that Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin and Parma’s Zion Suzuki could be keepers Manchester City look at this summer. In the case of Anatoliy Trubin, could he fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad as a keeper?
The first thing that stands out when you see Anatoliy Trubin play is his size. He stands at 199 cm tall and is an imposing figure in goal. Based on how many Premier League teams take corners that could be an immediate asset in his play. In possession, Trubin does join in Benfica’s build-up play. He is adept at playing with the ball at his feet. On that front Trubin could slot into Pep Guardiola’s squad.
More important than that Trubin is a good shot-stopper. He isn’t yet elite but he is only 23 years of age. His size does help him save shots and you do feel that he could develop even further as a keeper. Trubin is also a brave keeper and adept at coming for crosses and he possesses the bravery required to be a quality Premier League keeper. He isn’t the finished product by any stretch but the attributes are in Trubin’s game that could see him be a Manchester City goalkeeper.
If Stefan Ortega or Ederson were to leave Manchester City then Anatoliy Trubin would be a good option to replace either of them. The Ukrainian international has had a good season with Benfica and looks destined for bigger things in his career. He is one name to watch for if Manchester City do look to buy a keeper this summer.
