Manchester City will have a host of targets in mind to strengthen their squad when the January transfer window opens in less than a week. Sacha Tavolieri has reported for the Swiss branch of Sky Sports that Manchester City are keeping in regular and close contact with the representatives of Dani Olmo. Due to Barcelona’s current financial situation, they may not be able to register Olmo after December 31st. If they cannot there is a clause in Olmo’s contract that would allow him to leave Barcelona for free if he isn’t registered by that date as per Tavolieri’s report.

What Manchester City have lacked in recent weeks is creativity in the final third. A player like Dani Olmo would immediately add another option in that department for Pep Guardiola. Olmo is also adept at playing as a number 10 so he could in theory play behind Erling Haaland. So, on paper, Dani Olmo would be a tremendous fit in Pep Guardiola’s squad. But is a move for the Spanish international likely? That’s another question entirely.

If he is then there is no chance of him leaving Barcelona next month. But if he isn’t it’s a different situation entirely. Then Olmo’s future will become a topic to monitor next month. But it all hinges on whether or not he is registered as a Barcelona player. That’s the key piece of information that surrounds the whole story.

Dani Olmo as a player is almost the perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s squad. In hindsight, Manchester City should’ve pursued a move for the Spanish international last summer. But that wasn’t to be.
