Finding a player who would be Manchester City’s player of the 24/25 season is no easy task. In a down season for Pep Guardiola’s side, there doesn’t appear to be a standout performer for the world champions. One player who would figure high on that particular list would be Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian international has been a consistent performer for Manchester City this season. But looking ahead to next season and beyond could Pep Guardiola get even more from Josko Gvardiol? Based on Gvardiol’s talent you do believe that is a realistic possibility.

Josko Gvardiol has been one of Manchester City’s most reliable players this season. In a season where most of Pep Guardiola’s squad has suffered a host of injuries, the Croatian defender has been a constant presence in the City lineup. Gvardiol has made 41 appearances in all competitions. He has scored 5 goals and contributed 2 assists. Although at times his play has been plagued by errors and defensive lapses. But that particular issue isn’t one that has only plagued the Croatian international. We have seen that affect the entire Manchester City squad at times this season.

If Josko Gvardiol improves that side of his game next season, there will be an instant uplift in Gvardiol’s performance. But looking at Gvardiol as a player you do sense that he can add more to Manchester City’s attacking play. The Croatian international is already a valuable weapon in City’s possession play. He has all of the technical attributes required to develop that side of his game even further. If that happens you’d expect him to progress even further.

Defensively we have seen Gvardiol struggle at times. Due to the nature of how Manchester City play Gvardiol does get caught out of position when the ball is turned over. As mentioned above his individual errors have been costly at times. You do sense that if Manchester City’s overall play improves next season Gvardiol will improve as a player. That can be said about a host of other Manchester City players as well.

So the simple answer is yes Pep Guardiola can get more out of Josko Gvardiol. Some of that will be the further development of Josko Gvardiol as a player. More improvement will come for City’s number one left-back tidying up his play. The Croatian international has previously said he is willing to do whatever it takes for his team. When you consider the improvement that is possible in Gvardiol’s game if he fixes a few areas in his game he will do just that. That’s an exciting proposition to ponder for next season and beyond for Manchester City.
