Enjoying a rich run of form, Yan Couto sat down for an in-house interview with Borussia Dortmund's cameras as they prepare to face FSV Mainz 05 this Saturday.

With 1 goal and 1 assist in 5 competitive games, Couto summarised his bright start to the season, Nico Schlotterbeck's return and preparations for taking on Die Nullfünfer.

“I think things are going really well. We're developing as a team with every game. The win against Wolfsburg was very important because we kept a clean sheet and got the three points.

"We have to keep going like this: approach every game with high intensity, play good football, put pressure on our opponents, and get the results so that we have a better chance of winning the title at the end of the season.

“I dedicated the goal celebration [vs Juventus] to my daughter, who's due in December. So it was a very emotional moment for me, one I'll never forget. Of course, I'll try to score more goals in the black and yellow jersey.

“I'm happy for Nico. I know how difficult the last few months have been for him. He came back and played really, really well. Nico is a guy with a really good mentality. He talks a lot, he's a leader on and off the pitch—he's important for us.

The last time Dortmund faced Mainz at the Mewa Arena, the Westphalian giants succumbed to a 3-1 defeat. Now, the Brazilian wants to make amends for the result.

“I think every game in the Bundesliga is difficult. We have to adapt to the opponent: We've be doing that in training this week, so we can go into the game fully focused and try to stop the opponent's quality.

“It will be a tough game [against Mainz], but we know we have to win to stay in touch with the top of the Bundesliga,” he added.
