The 26-year-old will join up with Frank Lampard's Sky Blues on deadline day
Ipswich Town centre-back Luke Woolfenden is undergoing a medical at fellow Championship side Coventry City ahead of a deadline-day move.
TWTD has revealed this, stating that the Sky Blues beat out interest from both Stoke City and Watford to bring in the 26-year-old, who was integral to the Tractor Boys' recent back-to-back promotions from League One into the Premier League.
Coventry's interest in the centre-back has been high all summer and Frank Lampard's side actually had a deal rejected for Woolfenden earlier on in the transfer window.
But the Ipswich academy product has since expressed his desire to move on to new pastures, and Coventry looked primed and ready to land what will be only their fourth arrival of the transfer window.
TWTD have reported that Woolfenden is currently undergoing a medical at Coventry ahead of a move this deadline day.
It would bring an end to just under 16 years at his boyhood club, having joined Ipswich's academy aged just 11. He made his debut for the Tractor Boys aged just 18 in an EFL Cup win over Luton Town.
The 26-year-old has been an important part of the Ipswich squad across his time at the club, making 215 appearances, 15 of which came in the Premier League last season.
But, after being bumped down the pecking order over the last season and having yet to appear in a Championship game this term, Woolfenden looks ready to accept a new challenge elsewhere, despite Kieran McKenna's best wishes to keep him at the club.
Ipswich rejected a bid from Coventry earlier in the window for the central defender, showing the intent to keep him at Portman Road. However, it seems like that decision is out of McKenna's hands now.
"Luke's made it clear for quite a while that he wants to go, so we'll see what that situation ends up in," McKenna said at the weekend, and the Sky Blues are set to profit from that situation.
Coventry have been quiet this summer in terms of player incomings, having only signed Miguel Angel Brau, Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Carl Rushworth.
The Sky Blues were impressive last season under Frank Lampard, and the main focus was to ensure that the main core of the side stayed, and so far, they have. With eight points and 14 goals to their name through four Championship games, Coventry have seemingly continued where they left off last season.
However, like last season, defence has been a slight issue, with their six goals conceded representing the highest out of the early top-half sides this term in the second tier. Already, they've conceded three to Derby County and two against Oxford United.
Woolfenden will help shore that backline up, as the Sky Blues look to continue crafting a squad which can help them secure Premier League status for the first time since the 2000/01 campaign.
For Woolfenden, he'll be hoping that he can secure a personal second promotion in as many Championship seasons whilst at the CBS Arena.
