Cremonese now require a miracle to stay in Serie A after a stoppage-time 2-1 home defeat to Lazio left them trailing Lecce with three games remaining.
They sit on 28 points, four behind Lecce on 32, with three rounds to play. According to Football Italia, Genoa are mathematically safe on 40 points, while Cagliari and Fiorentina are nine clear and practically out of danger.
The picture sharpened on Friday evening when Lecce won 2-1 away at Pisa. That result confirmed Pisa and Hellas Verona will be relegated to Serie B this summer, leaving one place still to be decided.
Cremonese’s late loss to Lazio then compounded their plight, keeping them adrift of Lecce with minimal margin for error.
Cremonese finish by hosting doomed Pisa, travelling to Udinese, then welcoming Como.
Lecce face Juventus at home, visit Sassuolo, and conclude against Genoa on home soil.
If two clubs finish level on points in the relegation battle, a two-legged play-off decides who drop. If more than two are tied, a mini-league of head-to-head results is used, with the bottom two then entering the play-offs.
