Cristiano Ronaldo, aged 41 years and 132 days, started for Portugal against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday, becoming the oldest outfield player ever to begin a World Cup match.

According to L'Équipe, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner also entered the small group of players to feature at six World Cups, joining Lionel Messi 24 hours after the Argentinian became the first to reach that milestone.
