Cristiano Ronaldo is chasing a third straight Saudi Pro League Golden Boot, but Ivan Toney leads the charts and the title race is tightening.
Ronaldo struck 35 goals in 31 league games in 2023-24, then 25 last season, and has 21 from 21 this term. If he claims the award again, he would be the first European to win it three seasons in a row in the competition.
Toney, 29, has 23 for Al-Ahli, two clear of the 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward, who missed two fixtures after going on strike over transfer frustrations, which he may come to rue.
"Every time I step onto the pitch, I feel like I'm going to score, I've got that confidence at the moment," said Toney. He was speaking to talkSPORT.
"Yeah, of course, being a striker, you want to be scoring goals," Toney said.
His only blemish was a rare penalty miss, his first since April 2023, which would have taken him to 24. That form has propelled Al-Ahli into genuine contention.
Al-Nassr lead by two points on 58 after a 5-0 win over Al-Najma, with Ronaldo scoring from the spot and unveiling a new celebration in place of his trademark "Siu". Al-Ahli have 56 in a 34-game season with barely any room for error.
It is not a straight shootout. Al-Qadsiah are fourth on 53 under Brendan Rodgers after three consecutive wins, and could act as kingmakers when they meet the top two in the run-in.
