Cristiano Ronaldo produced a sensational display in Portugal’s 5-0 triumph over Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old made history by becoming the first player to score at six different World Cups.
Ronaldo broke the deadlock in the seventh minute by slotting home a pinpoint cross from Joao Cancelo.
HE struck again before half-time, finishing expertly into the far corner with Bruno Fernandes the provider.
Portugal came into the tournament as one of the favourites, but were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo in their opening game.
Ronaldo’s place in the team was called into question after his disappointing performance against the African side.
He cut a frustrated figure in their opening World Cup fixture, spending most of the game completely isolated in the box.
The former Real Madrid star squandered two scoring opportunities, had 25 touches and registered just three shots during his 90 minutes on the pitch.
However, Roberto Martinez supported Ronaldo in his pre-match press conference, insisting he is in the team on merit.
He repaid his manager’s faith against Uzbekistan. Ronaldo registered seven total shots, won all of his aerial duels and made three defensive contributions.
