Cruzeiro have ended their pursuit of Brian Rodríguez, confirming on Tuesday that talks with América in Mexico are over.
The Belo Horizonte club made three official bids, the latest worth up to 12 million euros, R$ 70 million at current rates, but América sought more.
Rádio Itatiaia reports that the 26-year-old winger’s camp were surprised by Cruzeiro’s decision.
ESPN says an investigation in Mexico into the Uruguayan for harassment prompted the club to step back.
Cruzeiro are also negotiating for forward Lucho Rodríguez of Neom SC (SAU), which could have influenced the stance. The plan is to replace Gabriel Pec and Sinisterra, both injured.
Flamengo, meanwhile, are finding the market tricky. Thiago Almada is their main target this window, with Luiz Henrique also on the list.
They may not face absences against Cruzeiro in the Libertadores last-16 first leg on 12 August, as the medical department has cleared Lucas Paquetá after a thigh injury. Before that, Flamengo host Vitória in the Brasileirão on Sunday at 19:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
