Crysencio Summerville: Winger playing Roma card to push Man United into transfer move | OneFootball

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Crysencio Summerville have just been boosted, given what is coming out of Italy.

There was concern that United were losing the transfer battle for the 24-year-old Dutch speedster to AS Roma.

The Italian side met with agents of the “unstoppable” West Ham winger this week, with terms discussed over his move to Serie A.

And while there has been a suggestion that Summerville has finally agreed to sign with the Giallorossi, an interesting update has now emerged from Italy.

Roma nowhere near signing Crysencio Summerville

Sport Witness, citing Corriere della Sera, reports that Summerville is nowhere near signing for Roma. They explain:

“The sticking point is his wages.

“He is asking for €6m a year, and the Italian side do not want to go beyond €4m. They are sticking to their guns on that front, as they will also have to spend €45m to persuade West Ham to sell one of their star players.”

Interestingly, while wages may be the headline issue, the real sticking point is not Summerville’s refusal to compromise on his demands. Instead, it is suggested:

“Summerville’s agent is trying to engineer interest from Aston Villa and Manchester United.”

This is reportedly frustrating Roma, who “know that they are being played. Or at least, they are being used by Summerville’s agent to try and drum up more attractive clubs.”

Apparently, Roma are not keen to continue being used and have set their own deadline, after which they will walk away if a deal is not struck.

Big boost to Manchester United’s transfer plans

United will be pleased with how this is playing out. They would relish signing Summerville, but cannot do so while Marcus Rashford remains at the club.

The United winger must make way for a £30 million move for Summerville.

Between now and the start of the season, Rashford’s fate will be sealed. Once he returns from the World Cup, it should become clearer where he will play his football.

And with Summerville buying time, United could reward him with his dream move to Old Trafford once Rashford secures a new home.
