The Eagles reached the league phase proper thanks to a 1-0 aggregate win over Norwegian side Fredrikstad on Thursday, with a 0-0 draw in Scandinavia following a one-goal victory at Selhurst Park where Jean-Philippe Mateta netted the winner.

Oliver Glasner’s side featured in ‘Pot Two’ of the draw, along with the likes of Rayo Vallecano, Dynamo Kyiv, and Lech Poznan.

The FA Cup winners have been drawn against AZ Alkmaar, Kups Kuopio and AEK Larnaca at home and Dynamo Kyiv, Strasbourg and Shelbourne away.

AZ will be their most notable opponent, boasting players like former Tottenham striker Troy Parrott, exciting Dutch forward Mexx Meerdink and playmaker Sven Mijnans.

Their away games are more eye-catching, as they travel to France to face Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg and to Ireland to take on Damien Duff’s former club Shelbourne.

Their match against Dynamo Kyiv will be played in Lublin, Poland.

In the Europa League, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest also discovered who they would be playing in their opening games.

Villa, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals last term, take part in Europe’s secondary competition this season.

They will face RB Salzburg, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Young Boys, and Bologna at Villa Park, and they will travel to Feyenoord, Fenerbahce, Basel, and Go Ahead Eagles.

As for Forest, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will play FC Porto, Ferencvaros, Midtjylland, and Malmo at the City Ground, and they will visit Real Betis, Braga, Sturm Graz, and Utrecht.
