Pressure was piling on Eagles boss ahead of crunch European tie
Oliver Glasner says he cannot help saying what he thinks — and is prepared to face any “s***storm” that may follow.
The Austrian has admitted he made some unhelpful comments over the past week, following criticism for suggesting some Crystal Palace fans need to be more “humble” and “remember where [they] came from”.
On Thursday, Glasner and Palace avoided any mutiny at Selhurst Park as they won 2-0 (3-1 on aggregate) against Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League, which they are considered favourites to win.
Glasner has gained a reputation for detailed and emotional answers in press conferences and interviews during his two-year tenure at Palace, and for expressing openly how he feels rather than being discrete or keeping any resentment about his or the club’s situation to himself.
Speaking after Thursday night’s win over Mostar, Glasner was asked whether his feelings have mellowed since suggesting some Palace fans could do with being more “humble”.
He replied: “I am always honest. I can't do it differently. If I feel something, I have to say it. Then I have to face the s***storm. I have to face any criticism that comes. Everyone hopefully knows [that] everything I say and do i for the best of Crystal Palace.
“The fans are always supporting the team. I don’t know when Europe next returns to Selhurst. At least one more time. I’m sure we will all enjoy the rest of the season.”
Palace were fourth in the Premier League in December but have fallen to 13th and have won only three of their last 17 matches.
But asked whether his team are still a way off producing performances as good as in the final months of 2025, Glasner replied: “No. That is the wrong picture. We are not always hugging and kissing after.
“The club are always honest with each other. We all want the best for Crystal Palace. Steve Parish has no ego. He doesn’t feel important. I don’t feel important.
“Now, after two years working together, I think these are the two best years in Crystal Palace history. We are still a couple of months to go and want to do it better. Every single win helps us.”
