Crystal Palace Poised for Capital Test against Man United

Crystal Palace return to Premier League duties with a sense of purpose, even after their midweek stumble in Europe. Selhurst Park, often a place where rhythm and noise intertwine, stages their meeting with Man United on Sunday at 12pm GMT. Both clubs are searching for clarity after recent setbacks, and both need a performance that reasserts their identity in a season that continues to twist.

Context Shaping Palace and Man United

Man United arrive on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to ten man Everton, a result that left head coach Ruben Amorim unusually candid. He admitted concerns over his team’s showing, frustration deepened by the missed opportunity to gain ground on the European places. That loss ended a five match unbeaten run and denied the Red Devils the chance to climb into fifth place.

Crystal Palace know the feeling of fluctuating momentum. Their last Premier League outing ended in a composed 2-0 win away at Wolves, a result that spoiled Rob Edwards’s homecoming. Yet Thursday’s 2-1 defeat to Strasbourg in the Conference League interrupted their stride. Even so, Palace remain unbeaten at home in the Premier League, one of only five sides to do so, and will trust in Selhurst Park’s energy to stretch that run.

Broadcast, Venue and Match Access

The match takes place at Selhurst Park in south London. UK viewers can watch the game live on TNT Sports, with build up beginning at 11am GMT. Subscribers can also stream the match on Discovery+.

Team News Influencing Selection

Olivier Glasner has a fresh selection issue after Will Hughes suffered a knee injury in the Strasbourg defeat. The manager noted that the issue “doesn’t look that bad”, but the midfielder will still need assessment. Borna Sosa is also doubtful after missing the European tie with a knock from training. Adam Wharton, Chris Richards and Daichi Kamada are expected to return to the starting group.

Man United remain without Matheus Cunha, who missed the Everton defeat due to a knock suffered in training. Amorim hopes to have him back for the West Ham fixture. Benjamin Sesko is out with a knee problem and Harry Maguire continues to be monitored after limping off in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham earlier this month.

Prediction and Historical Context

Palace created enough chances to win in France and should feel no dip in belief. Man United, by comparison, laboured against Everton despite playing against ten men from the 13th minute. Their recent record against Palace provides little comfort either. Crystal Palace are unbeaten in the last four meetings, winning three without conceding.

Crystal Palace to win, 3-1.
