Cuiabano has made an instant impact at Vasco, becoming first choice and producing one goal and two assists in three matches under Renato Gaúcho. He now prepares to face former club Grêmio at São Januário on Sunday at 16:00.

According to Globo.com, his first two Vasco outings, against Santos and Fluminense, came while he was short of rhythm after limited minutes at Nottingham Forest.

Renato’s arrival brought 11 days of fitness work before Palmeiras. Starting on the bench, Cuiabano came on at half-time, scored the winner and was the hero of the comeback in the coach’s debut.

That display earned him a start against Cruzeiro, ahead of Lucas Piton, who is out of form. In the 3-3 draw in Belo Horizonte, he assisted one of Cauan Barros’s goals and saw another arrive from his rebound.

Against Fluminense he was decisive again, crossing for Spinelli to head an equaliser on 42 minutes of the second half. He also took a short corner to find Rojas, whose cross picked out Thiago Mendes for the winner.

Beyond the numbers, he has raised Vasco’s level at left-back, impressing staff and supporters with athleticism and attacking quality. He has quickly assumed set-piece duties, from corners to wide free kicks.

A Grêmio graduate, Cuiabano has already scored against the Porto Alegre side while at Botafogo. He made 16 appearances for Grêmio and stayed until 2024, when he was sold to Botafogo. With the Rio club he won the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.
