Newcastle United defender Dan Burn is on the verge of extending his contract, according to the Daily Mail.
Burn has made 148 appearances for the club since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2022.
The defender has made 45 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side this term, including the memorable League Cup final in March.
Burn grabbed the crucial opening goal for Newcastle as they downed Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley Stadium to win their first piece of silverware in 70 years.
While that was undeniably the highlight of Burn’s career, his maiden England appearance against Albania also ranks up there in what has been a splendid individual campaign.
With his existing deal due to expire next year, it is no surprise Newcastle have moved fast to tie down one of their most trusted lieutenants, who has also expressed a desire to finish his career on Tyneside.
“I’d love to finish my career here,” Burn told iNews in October.
“I’ve moved back home now, my kids are back with their family, we get to see our family a lot, and it was always the plan to finish my career here.”
Burn’s impending contract extension should usher in a flurry of transfer activity at St James’ Park, with Newcastle expected to be active this summer.
Sitting in fourth position with 66 points from 37 games, the Magpies are currently embroiled in a five-team battle for three Champions League spots heading into the final matchday.
Newcastle will head into their season finale against Everton knowing a win would guarantee participation in Europe’s premier club competition next season.
