Daniel Farke has been nominated for April’s Premier League Manager of the Month after a landmark Leeds United run towards safety, lifting them to the 40-point mark.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds took seven points in April, recording back-to-back league wins for the first time this season. They beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford, their first league success there since 1981, then overcame Wolves before a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.
Farke features on a seven-man shortlist alongside West Ham’s Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest’s Vitor Pereira, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Liverpool’s Arne Slot, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler. City and Liverpool both collected maximum points in April.
Public voting is open until 12pm on Monday, 4 May, and will be combined with an expert panel to decide the winner.
Leeds could claim a double, with Noah Okafor nominated for April’s Player of the Month. The Swiss forward scored both goals at Old Trafford, then added a goal and an assist a few days later.
Farke will aim for the next milestone on Friday against Burnley, as victory would take Leeds to 43 points, a tally that has never resulted in relegation from a 20-team Premier League. He said his side want to keep going respectfully, stay focused with 12 points to fight for, and that one more win would ease pressure with earlier points preferable.
Burnley arrive with Mike Jackson as interim head coach after Scott Parker’s departure on Thursday. The Clarets were relegated following last week’s 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City and have won just four league games all season.
