Leeds United could face a fight to keep first-choice goalkeeper Karl Darlow this summer amid outside interest.

The Athletic reports that Manchester United are considering an approach for the Wales international, whose Elland Road contract expires this summer. United are believed to be seeking depth in goal, with back-up to Senne Lammens, Altay Bayindir, expected to leave, and Darlow’s homegrown status could appeal.

Darlow made 22 Premier League appearances last season and settled Leeds with a string of assured displays. The 35-year-old earned a save of the season nomination and has since cemented himself as Wales’ first-choice under Craig Bellamy.

Asked about his goalkeeper pool in late April, Daniel Farke said he would only discuss futures once everything is confirmed. He stressed his trust in Darlow, highlighting his status as number one in the run-in, the competition provided by Lucas Perri, and the veteran’s performances and character, inviting observers to read between the lines.

The report added that Leeds want to keep Darlow and are looking to offer a new deal. Uncertainty remains, though competition was always likely for a homegrown free agent who has just proved his Premier League level.

Leeds have moved to secure other key pieces, with club captain Ethan Ampadu signing a new four-year contract last week.
