Daniel Peretz has set his sights on becoming Manuel Neuer’s successor once the legendary goalkeeper closes his chapter at Bayern Munich. Neuer, 38, is in the final stretch of his long and illustrious career. Although he is set to extend his contract until 2026, it will likely be his last contract at the club.
The 24-year-old hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to guard the sticks for Bayern’s first team since joining the club in August 2023, but that doesn’t deter him from aiming high to become the club's number-one keeper in the future.
The Israeli goalkeeper has made a total of seven appearances for Die Roten, which includes five starts and two appearances off the bench. Four of his starts have come this season following Neuer’s rib injury caused by a barge into Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, which also resulted in a sending-off and a two-game suspension for the veteran keeper.
Daniel Peretz spoke to SportBILD’s Tobias Altschäffl on his ambitions at FC Bayern.
"In football, as in life, you can never predict exactly how things will go. There’s not just one way to reach your goal. My big dream is to become FC Bayern’s number 1. Even though that’s a big task after Manuel Neuer. That’s my goal and I am working hard for it”"Daniel Peretz
Bayern could be planning to loan out Peretz next summer so that the lack of playing time doesn't hinder his development. Several European clubs including Anderlecht, Union Berlin, and Copenhagen are interested in the 24-year-old and could imagine signing him on loan. On the topic of his immediate future, Perez didn’t have a clear answer.
Bayern Munch are sounding out the goalkeeper market for the signing of a ‘top’ backup option for Manuel Neuer. This signing can be made as early as the upcoming summer transfer window so that the new keeper can share next season’s workload with the Neuer and also be a potential candidate for his replacement in the future.
Bart Verbruggen of Brighton has been one of the names discussed internally at Bayern. The club is also closely monitoring Mexican side Cruz Azul’s goalkeeper Kevin Mier, who has a very similar playstyle to Manuel Neuer. Alexander Nübel, currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart, also remains an option for the goalkeeping position at FC Bayern.
With all these names in the mix for the role of Die Roten’s next number one, Peretz will have to work hard to secure his dream of filling Neuer’s shoes. A loan move that would guarantee regular playing time may do him good next season, and also give Bayern's decision-makers a clearer picture of his development, allowing them to plan his future at the club accordingly.
