Flamengo are targeting Botafogo midfielder Danilo for the next window, and the World Cup call-up has explained why he returned to Brazil after losing minutes at Nottingham Forest in 2025.
"It was very difficult. I am at an age to be in Europe, but a serious injury made me lose space at Nottingham. At first I did not want to return to Brazil, I wanted to turn it around and shine, but football is like that and we cannot control certain things." He told GE.
"I returned with a fear that I had not done the right thing, it was a project for the World Cup, and again I had injuries that hindered me."
"So the earlier fear became reality by not being called up and not getting a run, but since January I have been able to return well physically and mentally to show his football. That step back worked for me to be well in the national team."
Botafogo are seeking around 40 million euros, 236 million reais at current rates, to sell Danilo, believing he could gain value during the World Cup, which starts in June. The European and Brazilian windows open on 20 July after the tournament.
Flamengo are on a break due to the World Cup pause. Their next 2026 fixture is on 22 July against Chapecoense in the 19th round of the Brasileirão. Before then they will hold a mid-season camp in Portugal, including friendlies against Falkirk, Birmingham and Benfica.
