Danilo set out Flamengo’s approach after Evertton Araújo was sent off against Corinthians on Sunday.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Araújo saw a straight red seven minutes into the second half after challenging Breno Bidon, getting to the ball first then stepping on the Corinthians midfielder’s foot. VAR called referee Rodrigo José Pereira de Lima to review the incident, but he upheld the dismissal, leaving Flamengo with ten for almost the entire period.

Danilo said the aim remained to win, but the team moved the contest to a more comfortable place by closing spaces. With Corinthians finding room on the flanks and putting in crosses, Flamengo also defended man to man at times.

He admitted frustration at the draw, stressing that even a man down they still wanted the victory.

Flamengo now have a break before returning on two April away to Red Bull Bragantino in the ninth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Kick-off is at 21:30, Brasília time.
