Will Callum Paterson remain an Owls player beyond this summer?
Sheffield Wednesday veteran Callum Paterson is keen on signing a new contract at Hillsborough, despite not being a regular starter this season under Danny Rohl.
The versatile Scotsman is in his fifth season in South Yorkshire following his move from Cardiff City, and there's barely a position that he hasn't covered during his time at Wednesday.
With a contract expiring at the end of June though, the 30-year-old may be moving on come the summer - but it appears that situation isn't what he wants.
As per a report from the Sheffield Star, Paterson has not shut the door on his Sheffield Wednesday future, and would now be keen on signing a new deal, should it be on the table.
The 17-cap Scotland international is said to be settled in the South Yorkshire area, which has only strengthened his keenness to sign fresh terms at Hillsborough.
For much of the 2024-25 season, Paterson has been a peripheral figure for the Owls, and has looked like one of the certainties to move on come the end of the campaign.
In-fact, it took until late January for Paterson to achieve his first Championship start of the season, featuring on the right flank in a 4-4-2 formation as Wednesday went away to QPR and defeated them 2-0.
Prior to that, Paterson had only appeared 11 times in cameo outings in the league, but had started in all four EFL Cup matches of Wednesday's run into the fourth round in what was usually a rotated starting 11.
From Wednesday's last nine matches though, Paterson has started six times, alternating between the right flank and playing as a striker, and in that run he's scored four goals to give Rohl something to ponder in regards to his future.
One of Paterson's obvious strengths is his ability to play in most positions on the pitch - this season he has appeared mostly as a winger or a striker, but at times during his five years at Wednesday he's also played as a midfielder, wing-back and right-back too.
On an estimated £18,000 per week, as per Capology, Paterson is thought of as one of the higher earners at Hillsborough, so that could come into Wednesday's thinking when new contracts are being offered out in the next couple of months.
For all that Paterson hasn't featured so much this season though, his very recent run of starts could be a turning point for his Wednesday career that looked to be flagging as of a few months ago.
