Danny Rohl's impending Sheffield Wednesday departure

The writing appears to be firmly written on the wall regarding Danny Rohl's tenure at Hillsborough, with multiple reports indicating he has his sights set elsewhere.

As per The Star, Rohl mentioned to reporters that the club had been informed of his decision regarding his next move, well before the end of the 2024/2025 season, and it's clear he wants to get out of South Yorkshire.

The Daily Mail reported that the German is going to take his time with the decision - so while an exit seems inevitable, his actual destination remains undecided - which has created a lot of frustration within the Owls fanbase.

Southampton door closes, Will Still preferred

What once seemed like a potential destination for Rohl now appears to be off the table.

Southampton did make an approach for him in December after sacking Russell Martin but have turned their attention onto Will Still.

Alex Miller from The Star says Still is likely to get the St Marys job after leaving French side RC Lens - effectively removing one of Rohl's most frequently linked potential landing spots.

It is worth noting that Southampton's previous interest in December fell through due to the compensation that Wednesday demanded, with Ivan Juric then appointed until his departure.

Leicester City interest intensifies with Van Nistelrooy poised to leave

As one door closes, another one opens for Rohl, with Leicester City showing interest in securing his services.

Sky Sports reports that the Owls boss is a "priority target" for the East Midlands outfit with Ruud Van Nistelrooy on his way out - Leicester are seemingly going to depart with the Dutchman following their relegation.

Leicester are not going to progress for a new manager until the situation with Van Nistelrooy has been resolved, but their two main targets are reportedly Danny Rohl and former Southampton boss Russell Martin.

What is quite striking is the financial aspect to a deal with Rohl - his release clause goes down by half (50%), if he moves to a Championship club instead of a Premier League club - perhaps what Leicester could be waiting for.

Bundesliga clubs circling for Danny Rohl

Beyond the shores of English football, Rohl's native Germany has presented some possible options.

The Athletic reports that specific Bundesliga clubs, RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg, are among potential suitors for the 36-year-old.

Given Rohl's previous experience in German football as a coach at both Bayern Munich and Leipzig, a return could well be on the cards.

Owls fans have no option but to wait as their highly-regarded manager takes his time to decide on his next move. Whether that be in England or Germany, any club pursuing Rohl will likely need to pay the compensation that Wednesday are entitled to - and you wouldn't put it past Dejphon Chansiri wanting the maximum.
