Sunderland are planning significant off-field changes this summer, with Chief Business Officer David Bruce set to depart. Sunderland Echo understands that his exit forms part of a wider restructuring.
Bruce arrived in July 2023 as Chief Brand and Commercial Officer, and was promoted to Chief Business Officer a year later.
He oversaw the switch to hummel as kit partner and moved the club’s retail operation to Fanatics. His work on the 'Til The End campaign drew praise from supporters, as the club pursue fresh commercial growth.
A new CEO is expected to be appointed this summer, tasked with driving revenues to strengthen the club’s position in the Premier League.
Change has already been under way off the pitch. Mike Papadimitriou became Chief Financial Officer last September and Tom Burwell recently joined the board as a non-executive director, both with close links to Bia Sports Group, through which Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori manage their sporting investments.
Burwell will serve as interim CEO until the permanent appointment. The club are also recruiting a Chief Revenue Officer after Ashley Peden left as Chief Commercial Officer in January, with Bia Sports Group’s Scott McCubbin taking the revenue role on an interim basis.
