Liverpool have made contact over a massive blockbuster transfer.

Liverpool are heading into a massive summer transfer window, and sorting out the wide areas has to be one of their top priorities.

The main talking point, of course, is replacing Mohamed Salah. For years, he’s been the go-to player for Liverpool when it comes to goals, assists, and those moments that change big games. Losing someone that reliable on the right side leaves a huge gap, and it’s not something that’s easy to fix.

The reality is, players like Salah don’t come around often. Very few in world football can match the numbers and impact he’s had at Anfield. But Liverpool can’t just wait around hoping a solution appears - they’ll need to move quickly and make the right decisions if they want to stay at the top level.

His departure also highlights a problem that was already there. Even before he left, Liverpool were a bit light in wide attacking options. Selling Luis Díaz last summer without properly replacing him only made that worse, leaving the squad short on depth and balance.

Because of that, Liverpool have often had to shuffle things around and use players out of position whenever Salah or Cody Gakpo weren’t available. That’s worked at times, but it’s also shown how few natural wide players they actually have.

And that lack of depth has shown on the pitch too. The attack has often looked a bit predictable, lacking pace, creativity, and variety out wide.

All of which makes it pretty clear that strengthening those areas this summer isn’t just a need - it’s a necessity.

Because Liverpool haven’t really had enough natural width this season, teams have often been happy to sit deep and stay compact against them. Without players regularly stretching the pitch, defences have been able to stay organised and make things a lot harder for Liverpool in the final third.

That’s then fed into an attack that can sometimes feel a bit flat. Too often, Liverpool have struggled to open up space, break defensive lines, or get attackers into proper one-on-one situations. If they want to get back to their best, improving the wide areas this summer really needs to be a key focus.

That’s why bringing in wingers - and realistically more than one - should be high on the priority list. Yes, replacing Mohamed Salah is a huge task in itself, but the problems out wide go beyond just filling one gap.

What Liverpool really need is at least two quality additions who can offer pace, creativity, and a consistent goal threat from both sides. They need players who can chip in with goals and assists regularly, but also bring a bit of unpredictability and energy that’s been missing at times over the last couple of seasons.

Without that kind of injection in wide areas, it’s hard to see the attack becoming more dynamic or difficult to defend against.

There's a clear and obvious frontrunner in the race who could help fix all of Liverpool's problems and according to David Ornstein Liverpool have now made contact to bring him to Anfield.

Ornstein confirmed that the Reds are now in touch with RB Leipzig over a move for Yan Diomande.

This would be a blockbuster move, with Leipzig holding out for huge money, in the region of £100m. However, Diomande is worth it.

There's currently no other elite right-winger in the market. Just like Moises Caicedo was the only elite holding midfielder in the market in 2023, right now Diomande is the only elite option available.

It's why his price is so high and it's why in spite of his price being high, Liverpool are willing to pay it.

The fact that Liverpool are the most advanced and the most well positioned team to get this over the line is an exciting development with Paris Saint Germain interested in him as well.

On top of that, it's good to see that talks are now progressing at club-to-club level which suggests Liverpool are taking huge steps to get this one over the line.

The player would prefer to complete a deal before the World Cup. Liverpool would probably like to do the same. The time is ticking but there is still time.

It's one to keep a really close eye on.
