He is one of the Red Bulls’ key players – and David Raum is also a regular starter for Germany. At EURO 2024 on home soil, our captain earned his starting spot under Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann and went on to feature in every World Cup qualifier and friendly before the squad announcement (8 games, 1 goal).
David has now been named in the 26-man squad for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

After the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and EURO 2024 in Germany, this will be David’s third major tournament with Germany. The 28-year-old has won 36 caps since his debut in the 6-0 win over Armenia on 5th September 2021.
His only Germany goal so far was a memorable one, as he curled in a free-kick to make it 1-0 in a crucial World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg to set Julian Nagelsmann’s side on their way to victory.

David Raum enjoyed an excellent season at RB Leipzig. With nine assists, three goals and 96 chances created, he was among the most dangerous full-backs in Europe. Reflecting on his first campaign as captain, he said: “I’ve grown into it and it’s helped me. It made me feel that, with my mentality on the pitch and the way I support the lads around me, I can help the team even more and not get too caught up in my own game."

The left-footer’s qualities will also be in demand for Germany over the coming weeks. The national team will begin their preparations for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada in Herzogenaurach on Wednesday, 27th May. Their final friendly on German soil will be against Finland in Mainz at 20:45 CEST on 31st May. On 2nd June, the group will travel from Frankfurt to Chicago, where Germany face co-hosts the USA in their final warm-up match on 6th June (20:30 CEST).
Germany will then look to pick up their first World Cup points in their opening game against tournament debutants Curaçao on 14th June at 19:00 CEST. Their remaining group-stage opponents are Yan Diomande's Ivory Coast, on 20th June at 22:00 CEST, and Ecuador on 25th June at 22:00 CEST.
