Dayann Methalie ‘wants’ Sunderland as £25.7m Toulouse talks continue | OneFootball

Sunderland’s bid to land Dayann Methalie has moved forward, with fresh negotiations ongoing with Toulouse and a five-year agreement with the 20-year-old understood to be in place. According to Sacha Tavolieri, the left-back wants to join Sunderland, though a deal between the clubs is still required.

Tavolieri reports that Toulouse are now seeking 25.7 million, with Sunderland’s latest proposal worth about 21.4 million including add-ons and further talks expected.

L’Equipe reported that an opening offer of around 17 million was rejected. Toulouse’s stance has also been shaped by the recent sale of striker Emersonn to Ipswich Town for around 24 million, with a possible 3.5 million in add-ons.

Methalie is regarded as one of the leading young prospects in France after a breakthrough campaign, making 31 competitive appearances. Interest has emerged from elsewhere, but Sunderland appear encouraged by the player’s wish to join Regis Le Bris’s side.

Left-back is a priority for Sunderland following Dennis Cirkin’s exit earlier this summer, with Reinildo currently the only established senior option in that role. The club also want another right winger after Bertrand Traore’s departure, while a left-sided centre-back and extra attacking depth remain possible, with the focus on quality over quantity.
