Roberto De Zerbi has identified his first major transfer target, with Tottenham moving for Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara. According to CaughtOffside, Spurs have contacted the Brazilian’s representatives over a summer return to England.
Despite a turbulent campaign that has them one point above the relegation zone, the hierarchy is backing De Zerbi’s five-year vision.
Sara, 26, joined the Lions from Norwich City in 2024 for €23 million. He has five goals and two assists in 24 Süper Lig appearances and has since earned his first senior Brazil call-up.
De Zerbi is thought to see him as an ideal progressive carrier to lift a midfield short on invention. His Norwich spell suggests little adaptation to Premier League demands.
Galatasaray have reportedly set a €40 million floor. Tottenham are seen as frontrunners, but Brighton & Hove Albion are also keen and reportedly want to reunite Sara with former Süper Lig rival Ferdi Kadıoğlu.
Any agreement is likely to hinge on Spurs staying up. De Zerbi’s deal has no relegation release clause, yet a drop to the Championship would almost certainly scupper a move for a player of Champions League calibre like Sara.
The pursuit forms part of a potential triple raid on the Turkish giants. Spurs are also monitoring Uğurcan Çakır, a priority if Guglielmo Vicario joins Inter Milan, and Barış Alper Yılmaz, who has 10 goals and 14 assists.
