Death of Miguel Ángel Russo, legendary Boca Juniors coach
Boca Juniors is in mourning. The Argentine club announced on Wednesday the passing of Miguel Ángel Russo at the age of 69.
Russo had been battling illness for several years, and his absence from the dugout in recent matches had already raised concerns among supporters. His last match on the sidelines was on September 21, after which his duties were temporarily handed over to assistant coach Claudio Úbeda. While the club did not specify the exact cause, several Argentine sources report that he had been fighting prostate cancer since 2017, a condition that ultimately led to a severe urinary tract infection.
Miguel Ángel Russo had already left his mark on the history of Boca Juniors:
As a player, Russo was a midfielder and a true Estudiantes legend, representing the club from 1975 to 1988. His name will remain etched in South American football history, both for his triumphs on the sidelines and his achievements on the pitch.
