Josh Maja struck in the 11th minute to give West Bromwich Albion a 2-0 win at Preston North End.
The forward opened the game up with a clinical right-footed finish from the centre of the box, guided into the bottom right corner after linking with Aune Heggebo.
He remained the threat before the break, steering another effort just wide from the middle of the area (42.). After the restart, Daniel Iversen saved his close range attempt from a Maja-led move (63.).
Maja finished with three attempts, two on target, plus four touches in the box. He also knitted attacks together with seven successful final third passes and a key pass, keeping West Bromwich Albion on the front foot.
Because he continually found space between Preston's centre-backs and combined sharply with runners, his movement pinned the back line and ensured the visitors dictated the key moments.
West Bromwich Albion host Watford next in the Championship, while Preston visit Birmingham.
