Tommy Marques became the latest La Masia talent to make his first-team debut for Barcelona under Hansi Flick this past weekend against RCD Mallorca.

The 19-year-old midfield starlet, who had been called up to the matchday squad on several occasions already, had to wait patiently for his moment.

But it finally came on Saturday evening as he came on to replace Fermin Lopez in the 84th minute, with the game already in the bag.

Contract renewal on the cards

Now, according to AS, Deco has already contacted Tommy Marques’ entourage to discuss a new contract for the teenage gem.

Last year, the 19-year-old starlet renewed his contract with the Blaugrana until June 2027. Since then, he has become a regular in first-team training and has now made his maiden senior appearance as well.

Moreover, Barcelona are aware that several European teams are watching him with great interest. As such, Deco has made initial contacts to discuss a new deal for the young midfield starlet.

The report further states that Barça head coach Hansi Flick has already made it clear to Marques that he counts on him to be a full member of the first team from next summer onwards.

So, everything suggests that Marques will have a spot in the first-team squad next season and Deco has already started work on securing his renewal.

Seen as the ‘Frenkie de Jong of La Masia’ not only because of their physical resemblance but also the style of play, as well as the fact that Marques sees the Dutchman as his reference, he seems to be destined for a bright future at Barcelona.
