On Friday, Real Madrid announced that defender Jesus Vallejo had left the club after ten years.
The 28-year-old centre-back, who had barely played in recent seasons, had a contract that ran until June 30. But the two parties decided to part ways even before the deal expired.
Vallejo leaves Real Madrid after making only 35 senior appearances and having won two UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups.
Following the confirmation of his departure, Vallejo took to social media to say goodbye to Real Madrid and the fans with a heartfelt post along with images of his time at the club.
“Many thanks to all the people who are part of Real Madrid for these seasons in which we have experienced all kinds of moments. Both my family and I leave with the good feeling of having lived, worked and enjoyed this stage until the last day,” he wrote.
Vallejo expressed pride in having worn the Real Madrid shirt and even though he never became a regular starter, he showed appreciation for his role within the squad.
“Undoubtedly, I take with me a lot of valuable learning, both on and off the pitch.I am very proud to have worked every day to help the team and my teammates as much as possible from the position I was in at any given moment,” he wrote.
Finally, thanking the fans, Vallejo added: “I am also very grateful to all the Madridistas who have been supporting me in every game, in every training camp and at the end of every training session at the Ciudad Deportiva.”
It remains to be seen where Vallejo ends up now that he has said goodbye to Real Madrid after a decade-long spell.
