Barcelona prodigy Fermin Lopez enjoyed a memorable summer as he first won the UEFA Euro 2024 with the Spanish national team before going on to win the Olympics gold medal with La Roja in Paris.

Just 21 years old, Fermin, who was coming on the back of an excellent debut season with Barça, was asked to pull double duty with the national team during the summer.

And one has to now wonder if that came at a big cost as Fermin has suffered back-to-back injuries this month.

Indeed, Fermin first suffered a thigh injury earlier this month while with the Spain U21 national team and immediately returned to Barça.

Having spent a couple of weeks on the sidelines, the La Masia ace returned to training on Tuesday, only to suffer yet another thigh injury, this time in his other leg, which has now shelved him for three weeks.

Fermin’s latest injury same as that of Pedri in 2021

Now, according to journalist Adria Albets, the latest injury that Fermin has suffered is the same one that caused Pedri endless troubles after he pulled double duty with Spain in 2021.

Indeed, like with Fermin this year, Pedri played the Euros and the Olympic games in 2021 with Spain. Having been a regular for Barcelona in the preceding season, the youngster ended up featuring in around 70 games for club and country.

It took a significant toll on the 21-year-old, who has been bogged down by recurring fitness problems ever since, although he appears to be in his best shape physically this season.

Now, obviously, Fermin’s back-to-back injuries in the space of a couple of weeks are bound to raise concerns that he might end up going down the same road.

While the youngster did not play much at the Euros, the lack of proper rest and recovery between seasons is bound to have an impact.

As such, Barcelona will be hoping that they do not experience a repeat of Pedri’s situation with Fermin.
