Schalke have reached a full agreement to sign Dejan Ljubicic from Dinamo Zagreb, subject to a medical on Monday. According to BuLi News, it would be their third January addition of a Bundesliga-seasoned player after Edin Dzeko and Kevin Müller.
The former Köln winger watched from the Veltins-Arena stands as Schalke drew with Kaiserslautern on Sunday.
Sporting director Frank Baumann said the medical is scheduled for Monday, adding he thinks the contracts can be finalised afterwards and that the 28-year-old will probably join training on Wednesday.
Dinamo coach Mario Kovacevic expressed gratitude for Ljubicic’s contribution and wished him well for his time at Schalke.
Ljubicic is remembered for his celebration during the dramatic 2022/23 finale, before Jamal Musiala’s late winner helped Bayern Munich eventually beat Borussia Dortmund to the title. After helping Köln secure immediate promotion to the Bundesliga, he joined Dinamo at the start of this season and started every Europa League match for the Croatian record champions.
