Demands of Spurs linked striker have been reported

One of the seemingly never ending sagas this season has been the future of Lille and Canada national team striker Jonathan David. The 25-year old is out of contract in the summer, and it is one of the worst kept secrets in football that he is not going to extend his stay.

So, a player of his pedigree and stature will be available on a free - interest and rumours are as inevitable as the sun coming down. One of the clubs that have been consitently linked to the player have been Spurs. We have lost track of how many times we have aggregated reports linking the player to North London, doing so as far back as last July.

There has been no fresh link to the player to update you on, however, what we can update you on is how journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported what the player, and his agent, will ask for in order to get hold of his services this summer.

Demands of free agent striker and his agent have been reported

According to Tavolieri, to sign David this summer, interested clubs are looking at; 9 million euros per season wages, 15 million euros signing on bonus, and 10 million euros in commission/agent fees on top.

To those interested, 9 million euros is around £7.5 million pounds, 15 million euros is around £12.5 million pounds, and 10 million euros is around £8.3 million pounds. So, in terms of signing on fee and commission/agent fees you are looking at just under £21 million pounds.

As for the wages, which is more traditional and expected than both of the above fees, £7.5 million pounds feels reasonable. There are worse players than David on more money than that at Spurs - and plenty of other clubs - at the moment. That certainly feels the most reasonable.

Over eight million pounds in agent fees is pretty frustrating, but that is the way modern football is these days, and there is little you can do to avoid that. £12.5 million pound signing on fee doesn't feel too bad. If Spurs signed him for that fee from Lille without a signing on fee it would feel like good business. So you don't mind that really.

Let's see. Will be excited when this saga is over, regardless of how it ends. It has been pretty tiresome reporting on it over the last eight or nine months.
