Ruben Amorim has urged INEOS chiefs to do everything in their power to seal a move for sought-after frontman Viktor Gyokeres.
The prospective deal would see Amorim reunite with Gyokeres, whom he managed for two seasons at Sporting Lisbon, ahead of his first full campaign at Old Trafford.
GiveMeSport’s report came on the same night David Ornstein confirmed that Liam Delap’s move to Chelsea had officially been completed, setting in stone that the Red Devils missed out on their first-choice target to lead the line.

Alas, United have had no choice but to turn their attention to alternative options, and Gyokeres – hailed as the ‘hottest striker in Europe’ by ESPN’s Mark Ogden – has been linked with a switch ever since Amorim took the reins last November.
In his 52 appearances across all competitions this term, the Swede has returned 54 goals and 13 assists, while he also recorded 66 goals and 19 assists in the 68 matches he played under Amorim alone, making it no surprise the coach is pushing to be reunited with his ex-talisman.
One factor that’s thought to have scuppered the Reds’ chances of signing Gyokeres is the fact they failed to qualify for next term’s Champions League. His other suitors, such as Arsenal, can offer him the chance to play among Europe’s elite, although they seem to be prioritising a move for a younger option in the form of Benjamin Sesko.
The Sporting star celebrated his 27th birthday on Wednesday, making him a slightly more senior candidate than INEOS would usually pursue. Yet, after United finished the season with just 44 Premier League goals on the board in 38 games, along with a goal difference of minus 10, they’re not really in a place to be pedantic over age.
GMS adds that Gyokeres will be available for a cut-price fee of £59 million, despite his contract’s release clause standing at £83m.
