Saturday, 23 August 2025 sees Bayern hold their 13th Dream Match. Fresh from opening the Bundesliga campaign against RB Leipzig the previous evening, the players will head to Imst in Tyrol to face the Red Eagles Austria fan club. It’s the first time the now traditional Dream Match will be played in Austria, showing just how close Bayern is to its fans around the world.
The fact that Bayern send their senior players out to play against fans is unique in the world of football. This year’s hosts are the Red Eagles Austria fan club, which was founded in 2017 and has quickly grown to a membership of 1,600 fans from around the world – from Qatar to Sweden, Greece to the USA – and led by chairman Robert Schweighofer. The squad of 25 players have been working hard to prepare for the big game. They managed a confidence-boosting 6-3 win against SC Imst recently. The Dream Match will be played at the 5,000-capacity Red Eagles Austria Arena (the Gurgltalstadion), with a wide range of activities planned for all the family.
The Dream Match has become a tradition at Bayern since it was first held in 2007. Played every two years, it sees Bayern’s first team take on members of a selected fan club in a special fixture. Half the proceeds from the match go to FC Bayern eV, which supports people and institutions in financial need.
You can watch this year’s Dream Match live and for free on fcbayern.com, in the FC Bayern app and on the club’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
There will be a fan march, DJ, funfair and special children’s activities with bungee trampolining, bouncy castles, giant darts and a skill arena.
Red Eagles Austria are based in the town of Imst (population 11,100) and were founded in 2017. They currently have over 1,600 members from several different countries.
