DFCO’s women face an uncertain future and could drop out of the elite next season. The team has been up for sale for 18 months.

The club said in a statement that the collapse of domestic TV rights has deepened the wider crisis in French professional football, and that it must rethink its model, with the women’s operation running a 1.5 million euros deficit for 2025/2026.

The men’s side, who play in National, faces roughly double that deficit. Talks are under way with two potential buyers, and women’s football will continue at DFCO in youth and senior categories.

Without a buyer, no guarantee can be given about the competition level next season, so the first team could return at a lower, non-professional tier.

Depending on the budget, DFCO could relinquish its women’s academy accreditation, while keeping all youth teams and focusing on a more local, sustainable model. DFCO are fifth in Première Ligue, having finished fourth last season to reach the play-offs.
