Paulo Fonseca’s job is currently insecure, and he could begin next week unemployed if he does not taste success in the Derby della Madonnina. However, a journalist has claimed that he will not change his game plan unless his position as the AC Milan manager is guaranteed.

During Milan’s tour of the United States, there were some fantastic signs of a positive Rossoneri team that pressed with intensity and moved with purpose. That team seemingly stayed in America and the Diavolo at present look lost.

Of course, pre-season is not an indicator of how a season will go, but the differences should not be as notable as they are currently. Instead, it should be small differences, but Fonseca-ball from pre-season seems light years away.

However, Peppe Di Stefano does not believe that Fonseca will change his system for this weekend’s game, and when speaking to Sky he explained the reason why – his words have been relayed by Radio Rossonera.

From Fonseca and Pioli: different moments…

“At that moment Pioli changed and switched to a 3-man defence, which absurdly enough was the start of an upturn. But Pioli was not at risk and would not be at risk even in the event of a resounding defeat. Here Fonseca is gambling his bench: it seems clear, evident and eloquent. He is gambling his prospect at AC Milan and that is why in my opinion he will play it with his ideas.

“Unless he has guarantees from the club that he will stay and keep his position even if he loses, but I think the club is reflecting, as we know and have reported. In my opinion, he’s playing with his 4-2-3-1, which may later become 4-3-3. I haven’t done any checks yet as far as the formation I’ve tried out, but for me, there is only one doubt.

“In defence between Gabbia and Tomori. For the rest Calabria, Theo Hernandez, Pavlovic nobody touches them. In the middle of the field Fofana with Reijnders and Loftus-Cheek. Then we’ll see if someone will play as a trequartista or two half-backs and a playmaker. And up front that’s it: Morata starts from the beginning, with Leao and Pulisic. That’s in general, we’ll see if today’s training will have said something different.”
